Local Lore privacy
Effective September 11, 2026. Local Lore is a geography game operated by runsIT.
Your saved game
We use an essential, random browser cookie to recognize your player. We store its hashed identifier, your game choices, answers, map guesses, clues, scores, and discovered places in Cloudflare D1 for up to 90 days. There is no account, public leaderboard, or cross-device sync. Clearing the cookie disconnects this browser from its saved history; the stored history expires automatically.
Choosing a city
We use approximate network location supplied by Cloudflare to suggest the nearest available city. This lookup does not call Google Maps or save your network location in our game database.
“Use my location” asks your browser for location access. If access is already allowed, we can choose your nearest available city automatically. The game compares those coordinates with its supported cities in your browser; it does not send them to our server or store them. Only the selected city is sent when starting a game. A city you choose manually is remembered in this browser’s local storage until you clear it or use automatic location again. You can play without allowing location access.
Maps and abuse prevention
Google supplies Street View photos and map images through our server. Google receives requests for the places and map views shown. Google’s privacy policy and Maps terms apply to its services.
To limit automated abuse and image costs, we keep daily hashes derived from request IP addresses and request counters for up to two days. Our hosting provider Cloudflare also processes connection information and may keep operational logs under its own policies. We do not store Google image files in our database or create an image cache. We store panorama identifiers to locate the current photos.
