Local Lore terms

Effective September 10, 2026. Local Lore is a free geography game from runsIT. By playing, you agree to these terms and the privacy policy. Google’s Maps terms also apply to the maps and Street View content.

Play fairly

Do not automate image downloads, bypass request limits, scrape imagery, or interfere with other players. Access may be limited to keep the game available and control costs. Scores are for entertainment and carry no monetary value.

How scoring works

Each set has three rounds worth up to 1,000 points each. Skipped rounds earn zero. Pins within 50 metres of the stored location earn full points. Outside that area, points decrease exponentially with distance: about 950 at 100 metres, 640 at 500 metres, and 390 at 1 kilometre. A clue reduces that round’s earned points by 20%. The daily set uses the selected city’s local date, offers no clues, and saves one attempt per city per browser.

Availability and accuracy

Places, images, street labels, and imagery dates may change. We use a curated collections in Toronto, New York City, Vancouver and London and cannot guarantee every image or coordinate is exact or always available. The game is for learning and entertainment, not navigation. Features and availability may change.

Content and contact

Google imagery remains subject to Google’s rights and attribution requirements. Our location collection uses OpenStreetMap data, licensed under ODbL. For questions, use the contact details on runsit.ca.
